Fashion was a major focus of Climate Week NYC 2023, with a number of events and initiatives highlighting the industry's efforts to become more sustainable. Here are just a few of the highlights:

  • Circular Fashion Festival: Reclypt's Circular Fashion Playground event offered a dynamic environment filled with interactive workshops, performances by Hilla the Earth, and a unique Comedy Fashion Show. Attendees had the chance to explore sustainable fashion practices, participate in repair services, and engage with like-minded individuals. It was a day filled with creativity and education, promoting eco-conscious choices in the fashion industry.

  • Fashion Solutions Breakfast: The Fashion Solutions Breakfast delved deep into the role of fashion in sustainability. Key discussions revolved around achieving circularity at scale, reducing the fashion industry's carbon footprint, ensuring fair transitions for workers, and harnessing fashion's marketing power for responsible consumer behaviour. This breakfast session provided valuable insights into the future of sustainable fashion.

  • Junk Kouture: Junk Kouture empowered young individuals to make a difference through creativity and sustainability. Students aged 13-18 were challenged to create couture fashion pieces entirely from recycled materials, showcasing their innovative designs to a global audience. This initiative, with its focus on sustainability, creativity, education, and community, played a significant role in fostering the next generation of eco-conscious fashion designers.

These are just a few examples of the many ways that the fashion industry is working to bring like-minded individuals together and grow the sustainable community. Climate Week NYC 2023 was a reminder that we are not alone in the fight against climate change. People and organisations from all over the world, are taking action to build a more sustainable future.

At Genuinely Conscious, we use our expertise as a sustainable and digital marketing agency to help fashion, luxury, and lifestyle brands reduce their environmental and social impact.

Here are some ways that you can get involved in the fight against climate change and support sustainable fashion:

  • Repair your clothes instead of throwing them away. There are many tailors and seamstresses who can repair damaged or worn-out clothing.

  • Buy less, buy better. Invest in high-quality pieces that will last for many years.

  • Recycle your clothes when you're done with them. Many clothing retailers now offer textile recycling programs.

  • Shop secondhand and vintage. There are many great deals to be found on secondhand and vintage clothing, and it's a great way to reduce your environmental impact.

  • Support sustainable fashion brands. There are a growing number of fashion brands that are committed to sustainability. Look for brands that are approved by sustainability standards and certifications, such as B Corp.
